Sunsets in Shenandoah are an absolute must for your engagement session. Photographing during golden hour in Shenandoah is always amazing, and if you look through the rest of my portfolio you will see how the sun likes to show up in a brand new outfit almost every time. Check out this gallery to see what happens after a thunderstorm (PRIME, epic, rare sunset) or this gallery to see when it’s just feeling a little blue. But whoooweeeeee, did Matt and Yen get the cream of the crop, classic golden hour in the mountains.
But first let’s start with the hike. Yes, sunset is the goal, but we have some time together before those glorious sun rays decide to bring their diva selves out for us. So I want to show you what we were able to get on the hike up with Matt and Yen. They were both really big outdoor-loving, hikers, so this part was just as important.
Hiking Little Stony Man for an Engagement Session
This hike is absolutely perfect for Shenandoah engagement sessions. Which is why Matt and Yen (and literally everyone else) chose this location. It’s a short hike, very moderate, and I mean…do you see that view? The overlook is to DIE for. During certain seasons though, particularly spring or the end of summer, just as fall is starting, but the leaves are still green, are my favorite times to go out there because the hike up is totally incredible for photos as well. The greenery is still giving and it creates a totally different opportunity to add variety to your engagement session.
