Greg & Lizzie’s Spring Wedding at The Woodlands at Algonkian

A joyful, relaxed spring wedding at one of Northern Virginia’s most versatile venues

If you’re planning a spring wedding at The Woodlands at Algonkian, Greg and Lizzie’s day is such a beautiful example of how this venue shines during the spring season. Featuring fresh greens, golden sunsets, and a layout that works effortlessly for intimate moments and high-energy celebration.

From laughter-filled getting ready photos to a heartfelt Ketubah signing and a lively reception full of traditional Jewish dances, their wedding day felt joyful, meaningful, and completely true to them.

Getting Ready at The Woodlands at Algonkian

Lizzie chose to get ready in the bridal suite on site. Which was the perfect fit for her smaller bridal party. The space is simple, bright, and uncluttered—which makes it ideal for natural, candid getting ready photos.

The vibe was fun and casual from the start. There was lots of laughter, movement, and genuine emotion. This is exactly the kind of energy that photographs beautifully and sets the tone for the rest of the day.

Meanwhile, Greg arrived on site already dressed and ready to go. Since he was ready, we took time for relaxed pre-wedding portraits around the venue. The Woodlands offers so many quiet pockets that work perfectly for groom portraits without feeling staged or rushed.

A First Look Framed by Evergreen Trees

One of my favorite spots at The Woodlands at Algonkian is the row of evergreen trees right at the venue entrance. It made the most perfect setting for Greg and Lizzie’s first look.

The evergreens stay lush year-round, which is especially beautiful in the spring when everything else is just starting to bloom. It’s private, peaceful, and timeless—ideal if you’re looking for a first look location that feels natural and intimate.

After their first look, we moved seamlessly into bridal party photos. We knocked those out early so everyone could relax and be fully present for the ceremony and celebration.

An Intimate Ketubah Signing

Before the ceremony, Greg and Lizzie held their Ketubah signing in a private room with only their closest friends and family present. These moments are often some of the most emotional parts of a Jewish wedding day, and having a quiet, dedicated space made it feel even more meaningful.

The Woodlands offers great flexibility for moments like this—allowing you to step away from the busyness of the day without ever leaving the venue.

A Simple & Meaningful Outdoor Jewish Ceremony

The outdoor ceremony space at The Woodlands at Algonkian is one of its most versatile features. Set just in front of the venue, it works beautifully for both smaller, intimate weddings and larger celebrations.

Greg and Lizzie chose a simple, traditional setup for their Jewish ceremony—letting the meaning of the moment take center stage. This space can easily be transformed into something grand and elaborate, but it’s just as stunning when kept clean, minimal, and intentional.

Golden Hour Sunset Portraits on the Golf Course

Spring weddings at The Woodlands come with a huge bonus: sunset happens directly behind the venue, which makes the golf course an absolute dream for portraits.

We were able to head out just in time for perfect spring golden hour light, with soft warmth and glowing skies wrapping around them. These are the kinds of sunset conditions photographers (and couples!) hope for—and The Woodlands consistently delivers.

A High-Energy Reception Full of Tradition & Fun

The reception was the best kind of celebration—a lively mix of traditional Jewish dances and modern wedding energy. The joy in the room was contagious, with guests fully embracing every moment, from heartfelt traditions to all-out party vibes.

This balance of meaningful tradition and fun celebration is something The Woodlands handles incredibly well, with spaces that flow naturally from ceremony to cocktail hour to reception.
