That’s right, an engagement session in Washington D.C. at The Wharf, on the water, IN A BOAT! YAS. It was just as epic as it sounds. I love water people. I’m obsessed with the mountains and I’m equally and simultaneously obsessed with the ocean and I truly could not pick one over the other. That is why it absolutely thrills me that I have the honor and privilege of serving brides and grooms from both ends of the spectrum. I feel like I’ve become more known for my Shenandoah engagement sessions since moving to Virginia and it has made my heart so sad to be so far from the water and working on ocean weddings and engagements. So when Nick and Arin told me that they were boat people, I said “PAUSE. HOLD EVERYTHING. WE ARE GOING ON A BOAT PEOPLE.” Whether they liked it or not, haha! Which, thankfully they definitely DID like it.
We started out with the brightest of suns. Lord, bless the photographers dealing with harsh lighting. But Erin looked like a literal angel so that harsh light ended up giving, you know what I’m saying?
First, we started this DC Engagement Session on Land
Yes, I do sometimes include solo shots in my engagement session galleries. I mean sometimes you just look absolutely perfect standing there just existing, like my girl Erin did! It’s not too too often that I remember to do this, but I started doing it because a lot of times people will enjoy having a solo photo of their partner to put up at work, and I LOVE it and am here for it.
Next, we moved the engagement session onto the boat! HOORAY!
Now when I tell you that doing an engagement session in DC on the water in a boat is harder than it looks…I MEAN IT. There was other boat traffic so the boat kept getting pushed and turned in whatever direction the water was telling it to go. However, was it absolutely 1,000% worth all the little bumps along the way? You better believe it! Plus…we were on a boat, what else would you expect but for a boat to behave as a boat does?
Outfit change and spicing up the engagement session!
Ok, just a smidge of spice. Because we also had their other friend captain-ing the boat. We were not alone. Haha! Pro-tip: You definitely need someone else driving the boat for your DC engagement session on a boat. Cause like I said, that boat was moving and grooving and doing whatever it wanted. Nick and Erin were definitely boat people because it’s incredible to me that they pulled off this pose in the photo below.
Lastly: Top off your boat engagement session by falling in the water and toasting some champagne
Yes. Yes this was on purpose. Because I only have awesome clients who do fun things.
