Most of the time, the first time I get to meet couples face to face is at their engagement session, and by the end of it, I have a pretty good idea of who they are and what their personalities are like. Every once in a blue moon I look at a couple and am just like “wow, there can literally be no one else more perfect for each other than you two.” That is Jess and Joe. They were hilarious, and nerdy, super intelligent, athletic, and gorgeous human beings inside and out. By the end of their engagement session we all felt like old friends. Their personalities absolutely shined from the beginning of our session to the end and we captured some, shall we say, more unique photos because of it. And this is literally what I’m all about. I say it in just about every post. Be your most authentic selves. Yes, we will get the cute photo of you just smiling and looking at the camera, but the majority of our time will literally just be used on FUN. Jess and Joe brought themselves to the table full force and I LOVED it.
Joe had a deep appreciate for plants and was distracted often as he enjoyed figuring out what plant or tree was what. It was genuinely so endearing to watch him pause to appreciate the plants and then to watch Jess stop everything to appreciate his appreciation. Genuinely interested in whatever caught his eye and caused him to pause the typical engagement session poses and prompts.
Outfit changes to celebrate Jess’ Cambodian heritage
In our initial conversation, Jess told me it would be very meaningful to her and her family to wear traditional Cambodian outfits for their engagement session and wedding. I was SO excited because they were BEAUTIFUL and we took advantage of the whole hike up to pause for different scenery for photos with the new outfit. And yes, yes I do provide a changing tent for those of you wanting to switch things up during your engagement sessions.
Outfit #3 to bring even more pizzaz to the Shenandoah engagement session
I cannot emphasize this enough: Bring your personalities to your engagement session
Speaking of personality. Joe is SUPER athletic and Jess wanted to join in. And this is what we got from that. Like I said, bring those personalities!!!! And obviously, anyone who can climb or do handstands on demand is a huge bonus to create EPIC photos…and some silly ones, haha!
And as always, we have to end our epic Shenandoah engagement session with gorgeous blue light and silhouettes. The moon even decided to make a guest appearance.
