When planning your Shenandoah engagement session, a lot of time people have a hard time choosing between the incredible waterfalls or the epic sunsets from one of the many glorious overlooks out in Shenandoah Valley. Well, I’m here to say, “why not both?!” I LOVE when my bride and groom’s give a resounding “YAS! Let’s do it!” and off we go to have an absolutely freaking amazing day together.
One of the other reasons I love when brides and grooms upgrade their engagement session package to include both of these locations, is because we get to spend so much more time together. It’s such a wonderful opportunity to get to know each other and for them to get more comfortable in front of the camera. We start the day off with a nice little hike in the woods together down to our waterfall location. Then, we spend the next 45mins just having a stupid fun time climbing rocks and playing in the water! Not everyone gets in the water, but like, obviously you should, haha!
Play in the Waterfalls of Shenandoah for Your Engagement Session
This is your ENGAGEMENT session!!! What an incredible opportunity for you and your partner to break the norm with the most fun date ever, right here in Virginia. Let loose. Have fun. Be young and dumb and obnoxiously cute! If you’re going to hike all the way out to a waterfall, you should take full advantage and just GO FOR IT. Although I will tell you this right now…that mountain water is going to be COLD, haha! Freezing, but worth it, I promise…we’ll call these Shenandoah waterfalls: refreshing.
Part Two of the Engagement Session: Hiking Shenandoah for a Sunset View
So there are a few options for going from soaking wet to hiking a mountain in Shenandoah to get more epic sunset photos. One, I have a lot of natural brides, like Trish, who love simple makeup and hair. So the few brides that have done this package typically bring makeup to do in the car and let their hair dry naturally, and it looks just fabulous for their photos. I always love a natural look. I do also have a changing tent that we bring with so you’re not hiking back up in gross, wet, cold clothes. The second option, is we can make a pit stop at Big Meadows Lodge or Skyland Lodge for a hot shower and electricity so you can totally re-glam yourself with full hair and makeup. Because we are ALSO here for the glam, mkay? YAS. QUEEN. Bonus: Both lodges are conveniently located right by the trails we take.
Once you’ve gotten yourselves clean and dry, we head over to Little Stony Man for a short hike that results in stunning views. This hike is absolutely perfect for your Shenandoah engagement session. The hike is short and easy and pops out right where the sun does it’s magic at sunset. You can’t beat it and most of my clients choose this location for that reason.
