This is the most key thought that I want you to remember as you are choosing the right wedding photographer. At the end of the day, your photographer is literally responsible for capturing not only your MEMORIES but also moments that you might not have even been aware happened on your wedding day!
When you look back at your wedding photos you want to feel all the things that you felt on your wedding day. Years down the road you may have forgotten that little touch, that dance, that moment, that little detail that brought you so much joy. Your photographer is responsible for you being able to relive ALL of that.
So first things first when finding the right photographer, make sure they are someone who knows the importance of what they are doing. This cannot just be a business arrangement.
With that being said…
If it’s not me, that’s ok! I mean, you’ll only regret it for the rest of your life, but, it’s FINE.
JUST kidding….In all seriousness what matters most to me is that your memories are in capable hands. You need to pick the photographer that best suits YOU.
So here are some…
Have a face-to-face. Your photographer is the one person who is with you ALL day on one of the biggest days of your life…if you can’t see yourselves as friends…move on.
In the digital age of cameras it’s so easy for you to get duped. Are you seeing lucky shots? Or is the work consistent from start to finish? If they avoid showing you a full album, RUN.
Be weary of “natural light photographers”…9/10 they don’t know how to use a flash, which is crucial if you are having any part of your wedding indoors.
Trending right now: Dark and Moody or Light and Airy. When you see these styles, or any style, are you happy about that look for the next 50 years?
Get as much back story as you can so you can know how experienced your photographer really is.
More important than you think. Some venues also require this from all vendors.
Things happen. You need to know that your photographer learns from their mistakes, and can adapt under the pressure of a wedding day.
Ultimately, it’s your decision. Just promise me, PROMISE ME, You’ll avoid “free” offers. Someone’s second cousin who is learning photography and wants to build their portfolio, or Aunt Susan who is a retired photographer, or even your best friend who has been shooting for years and wants to do you a solid (all real stories)….trust me…just don’t.
*shutters at the horror stories*
It’s a lot, but, you got this.
